The Initial Meeting.
You have to love early morning Autumn meetings where you have the choice between hearing everyone at the giant table or de-numbing your frozen fingers near the radiator.
I think its safe to say i developed a great sense of lip reading in that meeting and had a fantastic view of the River Foyle and leaves all changing colour while i waited for the rest of the meeting party to arrive. zero regrets being the warm albiet deaf person at the table.
Meeting Participants were as follows:
in no fancy order, just from the head of the table downwards.
Malachy O'Niel,
Who i subsequently labelled the University Suit until i figured out his actual job title.
Mark Lusby,
Who even though i now know his Job title of Museum Curator at the Base One Europe Museum i still stand by my original description of History Genius Guy
Justin Mage,
Who now upon writing his name i realise will likely read this, so "HI JUSTIN !"
The Two Hungover Drama Girls,
Who weren't overly forthcoming with their names and as such i won't post them here just incase.
C.Friel,
One of the two other classmates silly enough to take on this massive project. (is it obvious at this point the scale of the building is settling in and i wish id chosen a dimensionless character that revolved around Chinese culture and maths?
MIA: P.Quinn,
Unfortunately Paddy was extremely sick on the day of the meeting, he was quickly recapped by myself (actually took so many notes it borderlines minutes of the meeting i was that on edge) and Caolan but it did slow down the back and forth help the three Design or Creative Technologies students gave each other during this project via email, Facebook and messenger.
And then of course myself at the end of the table acting 100 years old and ready for summer.
The purpose of this meeting was similar to most client meetings, see where everyone saw this project going and who would be in charge of what and make sure everyone understood each others desired outcomes before any practical work began.
Mark thankfully went first and gave us all a recap of the reason the project came about, the 75th Eleanor Roosevelt Anniversary Exhibit. This would take part in November (date to be confirmed) and the museum was reaching out to creative arts students who may wish to take use and exhibit their work, Malachy then proceeded to tell us all the Universities view point, and somewhere between the four at the bottom of the table panicking Justin thankfully spoke up on reasonable expectations as our project is estimated to take us to early January and a finished reconstruction wouldn't be possible, however it did work out well for the Drama Ladies as this was a side piece within their modules brief.
The Drama girls would create a script from E.Roosevelt's personal diaries and rein-act it during the exhibit. This i was really interested in out of sheer curiosity.
Although Mark and Malachy were polite and considerate of expectations at this point i don't think they know what is involved in 3D design and think they will be disappointed on how far along any of the three of us will be come early November for the exhibit. It is a deadline id like to include on my task management scheduling but i will have to be realistic in terms of something decent for exhibiting.
The meeting ran on a little but ended very swiftly when classes had to be got to, I had a spare 20 minutes that i took advantage of while being allowed within Aberfoyle House.
During the meeting it was mentioned the building (Aberfoyle House) was used at the same time the bunker would've been, meaning the size and layout would've been similar. i was standing in a reference goldmine !!!
After the meeting i went on to get more references in similar old buildings and WW2 sites. many of which have been either abandoned or re-purposed, This began by asking around word of mouth to see if any one knows anywhere similar in style time and structure, which lead to further and further suggestions. Most were appointment only as they are either guarded or now businesses but the abandoned ones just required my determination and a full petrol tank to discover as google maps doesnt understand 'somewhere up xyz mountain but if you get as far as the stone walls you've gone to far', I have compiled a list of these within the first presentation due this week (the week following the meeting)
First hand references are available to see on my behance page as it takes an insanely long time to upload any photos of quality onto blogging sites. Some of these should make it into the appendix of the State of the Art Review but only a select few. So to really see the references of the project behance is your best source.
Now the meeting has happened and i have a better understanding of the main users and purpose of this project i can plan it better, but fast ! as we are already on week 3 !
