It's the inside that matters !

Now the basic model of the exterior is finished i recently moved on to interiors. Although similar in creation there was alot more involved, especially in regards to measuring and naming.

This project constantly reminds me of dominos or Russian dolls, something is always hinged on the previous and following model, name or measurement.
Every so often i think to myself i either need a second brain or an actual personal assitent to deal with the records and writing aspect of this project.

Now i have the exterior complete i feel confident enough in approaching the local FabLab at the Nerve centre to discuss 3D printing options.
As you can see from my earlier posts and sketches i'm hoping to either print the exterior or three models (exterior and two levels showing different stages of construction, as insight into the materials of the building) This is for several reasons, the two most prominent is it gives the grading person a more physical visual of the final product and knowledge of the building from start to finish and for quirky end results.
Possibly photograph the little blue 3D print on campus and with use of selective angles/perspectives show where it would've been back in the day. It would be a fun final output. Perhaps done well enough to be included in my portfolio.

I have made enquiries at the nerve centre and got contact information for the person (eamon) id need to speak to. I have emailed Eamon outlining my objectives and will keep you all updated on the progress of that.

Back to the project !

The interiors were relatively straight forward and time consuming to be done accurately and right. The only major hiccup could be i had built half of the first floor interior before i realised i had been joining the measurements of the room to the measurements of the next room and not accounting for the width of the walls. unfortunately the walls width is never mentioned, brick walls yes but otherwise it just mentions materials such as plywood or brick, so that was like several other aspects left up to the on site persons desecration., i thought 4" looked appropriate.

An aspect i love about the chosen rooms and halls involved in my storyboard flythrough it shows everything without showing the entire building, it includes all 4 types of doors and different spaces, windows and flooring. The fire doors will be tricky designing. at this point they are just accuraly measured over sized blocks ready for booleaning to make way for the actual modelled doors.

I would assume the A and B doors will have little noticeable difference as they only differ by about 10cms, perhaps instead of 4-6 squares like the reference doors i could have the closet and toilet doors approx 3 horizontal rectangles? , the entrance and exit doors designs are carefully described in the plans HOWEVER the fire doors are not. the Aberfoyle house and Hogwarts building doors are interesting references for A and B but fire doors are unknown quantities at this point. Were they just thicker doors but with the same design ? did they have cut out glass partitions like exterior doors? this is possible considering they seem to be double doors or situated at the end of hallways. This is something i need to design more on or ask around about before i get to that point in modelling.

As i model i try to stick to my sketches as best i can.
An example of this would be the lower floor allows an insight into building materials, whereas the first floor will be bare and have a just built feel to it, and the actual flythrough areas will be completely mapped, textured and furnished. I think this will give an insight into the building, the past and hopefully my creative process? or it might look like i ran out of time and didn't bother doing the small details throughout the whole building, who knows !

As far as i'm concerned its interesting showing the step by step in three levels but it would be a waste of time furnishing and full texturing and mapping every nook and cranny of this massive building when i could be using my time better perfecting to the best of my abilities the only two rooms and two hallways featured in my reconstruction.
