The Bunker Experience !

I exported a HDRI image through 3Ds Max by changing the camera to a cuboid (something i wasn't aware you could do) this put it simply allowed the software to get a sequence of adjoining shots of the same scene/environment, that then gets flattened out into a long wavy render.
This took a few tutorials and alot of reading and advice but i got there in the end. I understood HADRI imaging but not using 3ds max, i would've used normal photography skills, a hdri reflection sphere and after effects, with 3ds max the final render was far greater quality though and it would be something useful in future if ever needed as a back up visual in the career im pursuing.
There are several things you can do from here including using roundme, vr for all and VR Media Player, i suggest unless sitting at a desktop or laptop you download the vr media player on your phone, its not a large app, and open this attached HDRI image, or any of the HDRIS available on behance. vr media player was more first time user, user friendly i found. It not only allowed you to span around the room using the phone as a controller but it also had the option to walk around the room and use the phone as a looking glass. It also allowed the option to upload it to youtube or a similar platform which i found the others didn't without fee or extra work, i however didn't get this far as once i had successfully manoeuvred around the room the renders were finished and it was time to rush on to after affects or i wasn't meeting the deadline !
Hopefully the 360 experience will allow the user to have a different type of experience but still experience the space i have created at their own pace, which i what i wanted originally, but in the end i feel the final output was too fast paced for what i was aiming for. This allows the user to slow down.
I rendered out in PNG sequence for quality over time, popped them into Adobe AfterEffects and used very basic editing skills to put them in order and fade to the next. i was very unsure about the fades however i was pressed for time by the time all the renders were finished and simply putting them in in sequence felt less time gone by and more, 'its a new look into a new building' the look of it was too sharp and fast paced. I should've allowed weeks for rendering back and forth, the playblasts didn't seem half as fast as the renders turned out to be but at this point it is a make do with what i have. I added a simple title screen and following my original idea of a slow creaky gramophone i included sound. Reminding myself it doesn't matter how far i come on in knowledge base and skill, i can always make the rookie mistake of not checking the output noise box, this set me back embarrassingly an hour as i thought it was the audio or other render settings. Only mentioned for reflective purposes, it wasn't actually a massive bump in the road, just something that took longer than id have accounted for.
The final output 3D wise did achieve what id set out to do but later stages became rushed and there was no time to re render everything at a slower pace either. Because of this i feel on evaluation this may have been a better project had the students collaborate within the same project, and perhaps have ore than one output? Im not 100% on the semantics but it would've been nice to have a group project within my portfolio as they are all solo projects unless done within industry. I feel this could've brought on the quality and defined the project far more than a single person. The three students who worked on this project, and started out with vastly different ideas, after months of brainstorming and Q&As together we did get on well and i fell our projects turned out far more similar than expected and it could've been a possible group project instead of three projects. But thats neither here nor there at this point.
I personally am confident my project is what the museum was looking for from my periodic meetings and phone calls with M.Lusby, and personal impression of the museums setup and future goals.
I will perhaps continue this project on a personal basis and slow down the renders and fix up the final editing but overall i'm very pleased and feel the colour and research put into this project brings it to life and hope it is a worthy contribution to the community treasure, and will benefits some who may have a different way of experiencing the past.
Now on to planning my Next semesters project Proposal, The fun never stops in final year !
Thankyou all for reading until this point even if you faded in and out at the details and boring bits. I hope you enjoy the Bunker Project, my reconstruction of the Us.Navy Administration building based in Magee campus between 1942 and 1944 ! it was a pleasure to work on this and i hope to collaborate with all involved again in future.
