3D Printing

3D Prints/FDM test prints are achieved through creating workable designs, and exporting them as STL files, at this point i am back and forth with Eamon when they are available to look at my model, to see if its a viable model for printing and when there is space in the fablab in and around the holidays to print it.

Unfortunately its busy season and holiday season and the fab lab is short staffed until February which isn't going to work this project as the deadline is very early January.

I have sent different sizes back and forth a few times this past fortnight but unfortuatly i can only go as fast as they are available to help.

The premise of the Fablab incase you don't know is its free to use and learn but there is a small cost of materials.

Eamon has informed me 3Ds Max is one of the worst 3d prgrammes to 3D print from, the options would be to awkwardly edit it or export it as an STL and pop it into a programme called CURA, which should be free for students and scale it way down to fit within the given perimeters, and the machine SHOULD be able to read it but its not always guaranteed.
I've sent very small scale versions of the exterior because i thought the machine needed small or slightly bigger than the original small scale, but as far as i can tell it might be best if i set the full 65m length building into the programme for printing. The walls have to be a minimum of 4mm thick so that gave me the initial impression the machine dealt with very small scales, but i may have been wrong.

I don't know what sort of printers they use so i can't even research it a bit more, i'm completely in the hands of anyone who works for the Fablab at this point. I've tried word of mouth and past experience through past students who might've used the Fablab but few have any memory of the process never mind the brand of machines.

It is something i really want to do, not for my own reference but for interesting photographs and final outputs and potentially for the grading persons physical reference.

At this rate it may be the new year before i hear back (considering the response time in previous emails) So i will update you if anything more comes of it, but at this point it needs set to the side as to not distract from the main task at hand, Finishing the project !
